Frequently asked questions

Certification

Interested in certification for the courses you have completed?

Please be aware that FAO is adopting the digital badges certification system, widely used worldwide to certify the acquisition of competencies, progress talents within organizations and increase employment opportunities. Certification is granted through the digital badges system, which certifies the acquisition of specific competencies, through performance assessments. The FAO elearning Academy grants certification to those who have completed an FAO elearning course with a final scenario-based, competency-based performance evaluation of 75 percent or higher. The FAO courses that are certified have the associated digital badge symbol clearly visible in the course description page. For more information on the Digital Badges System.

Taking a course

When can I start my course and is there any cost associated with it?

You can start a course anytime and anywhere, since the FAO elearning courses are completely self-paced with no tutor-led instructions or schedules to follow. There is no charge for taking the courses online or downloading them onto your PC. The FAO elearning Academy offers all the multilingual elearning courses free of charge, as a global public good.

I have logged in. How do I take a course?

Once you are logged in, click on “Courses” in the menu and then select the course of your interest. All the courses are free of charge.

When I click on the “Access online version” link to take the course, nothing happens. What do I do?

Most of our courses open up in a separate popup window. In some cases, you or your browser could have enabled a popup blocking feature. It is normally not difficult to disable this feature. Please refer to your browser’s website for directions on how to disable popup blocking.

What software do I need to run the course?

The system requirements can vary depending on the course. Please refer to the “System requirements” section within each course description page for a complete overview.

Yes, you can. Most of our courses are available in a downloadable format. Once logged in, you will find a download link on the course description page, when available. The downloadable version runs on Windows PC without any additional software.

For most courses, a text-only PDF (or learners’ notes) is provided for each lesson. There is a link to these files in the first screen of each lesson.

We don’t recommend taking the course on smartphones, tablets or other mobile devices with a screen size less than 7 inches. Please refer to the “System requirements” section within the course description page to understand what is needed for each course.
