Topic outline
The course offers guidance on the development of an advocacy strategy for a multisectoral and multistakeholder approach to nutrition. In particular, it provides assistance in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of an effective advocacy strategy for the engagement of diverse sectors and stakeholders in nutrition initiatives. The course will address methodologies and techniques tailored to the specific needs of the various stakeholders and sectors, acknowledging their pivotal role in addressing malnutrition at the national level.
The course is primarily designed for the following audience:
- National nutrition focal points
- Advocacy and communications practitioners
- Nutrition project managers
Secondary audiences for this course will include national representatives from civil society, donor organizations, UN agencies, private sector, academia, and other national stakeholders engaged in nutrition.
- How to define appropriate goals, objectives and stakeholders for a nutrition advocacy strategy.
- How to create effective advocacy messages and align them with goals and interests of specific sectors.
- How to identify and engage key messengers for an advocacy goal.
- How to select the most effective advocacy channels for delivering the messages.
- The role of monitoring and evaluation in refining and improving the strategy.
This course is organized into four lessons of approximately 35-45 minutes duration each:
- Lesson 1 – Identifying objectives and audiences for advocacy
- Lesson 2 – Creating effective messages for key sectors
- Lesson 3 – Identifying key messengers and advocacy channels
- Lesson 4 – Implementing and assessing the advocacy strategy
