      Understanding antimicrobial resistance in food and agriculture

      This course offers an overview of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as a global threat to human, animal and environmental health, and explains the role of the food and agriculture sector, and the impact of AMR on agrifood systems. It also describes how the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is contributing to increased awareness and engagement of all stakeholders in the food and agriculture sector, to tackle AMR.

      FAO Progressive Management Pathway for Antimicrobial Resistance

      The course provides a comprehensive overview of the FAO Progressive Management Pathway for Antimicrobial Resistance (PMP-AMR). It covers FAO’s support focusing on the National Action Plans on AMR (AMR-NAPs), through the PMP-AMR tool, which provides assistance in incorporating the food and agriculture components of the AMR-NAPs and in ensuring that a One Health approach is applied, to support national efforts to combat AMR. Learners will gain an understanding of the technical topics addressed in the PMP-AMR tool. They will also learn about the practical application of the tool, specifically how to organize and support PMP-AMR national assessment workshops, by identifying all the key stakeholders involved. The course concludes with guidance for planning assessment workshops.
