  • The e-learning series "Agriculture in international trade agreements" describes the treatment of agriculture in the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Agriculture (AoA) and Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) and aims to support policy makers to develop and implement appropriate agricultural development and food security strategies.

    The series consists of the following courses:

    World Trade Organization Agreement on Agriculture

    This course introduces the background of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and structure of the Agreement on Agriculture (AoA), and it discusses the outcomes of recent WTO Ministerial Conferences.

    Non-Tariff Measures in agriculture and related World Trade Organization agreements

    This course discusses the significance of Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs) for international trade and it describes WTO agreements on such measures.

    Agriculture in Regional Trade Agreements

    This course provides trends of Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) and descriptions of RTAs provisions on policy areas relevant to agricultural trade, comparing them to those in multilateral trade agreements.

    Course

    International trade in fisheries and aquaculture products

    This course introduces the Harmonized System (HS) nomenclature for fisheries and aquaculture products, presenting global and FAO international trade instruments in fisheries such as the preferential access and Rule of Origin.

    Each course concludes with a final test. A digital badge certificate is issued upon successful completion of the test.

    Depending on the interest of learners, the self-paced course series can be completed as a whole (which is preferable), or as individual courses (or lessons), taken independently.

    Throughout the course series, references are made to specific courses or lessons where certain subjects are covered more extensively. Each course takes the learner step-by-step through the learning content using interactive screens and is complemented by exercises and links to additional material and websites for further reading.
