  • The relationship between trade and food security is attracting increased attention on both the trade and development agendas, with trade recognized as one of the means for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This series addresses the linkages between trade and food security, which are highly complex and have been subject to intense debates at the national and global levels. The challenge is how to ensure that the expansion of agricultural trade works for and not against, the eradication of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition.

    This course provides an overview of the concepts of trade, food security and nutrition, and it discusses their linkages.

    Trade policy supportive of food security and nutrition

    This course analyses trade policy design and implementation in the context of agricultural development and structural transformation.

    Governance of trade, food security and nutrition

    This course discusses policy space for food security in the multilateral trading system, and the coherence between policy processes at the national and global level.

    Some of the courses conclude with a final test. A digital badge certificate is issued upon successful completion of the test.

    Depending on the interest of learners, the self-paced courses in this series can be completed as a whole (which is preferable), or as individual courses (or lessons), taken independently.

    Throughout the course series, references are made to specific courses or lessons where certain subjects are covered more extensively. Each course takes the learner step-by-step through the learning content using interactive screens and is complemented by exercises and links to additional material and websites for further reading.
