This course introduces the concept of monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) and explains its importance for fisheries management. It provides guidance on the design of an effective MCS system to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and describes the main components on which an MCS system should rely. Finally, the course explores the type of inspection activities that can be conducted to combat IUU fishing.
This course is designed for people either new to or already working in the field of fisheries MCS, in both the public and the private sector. In addition, technical staff and advisors of social organizations and academia will benefit from the course content.
