Topic outline
This course introduces two complementary systems that support the management of ex situ data on plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (PGRFA): GRIN-Global Community Edition (GGCE) and Genesys.
GGCE is an open-source genebank management system with its origins in the Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN). It helps genebanks capture, organize, and use PGRFA data to support consistent workflows and informed decision-making. Genesys is a global portal that publishes accession-level data from participating institutions, enabling users to search, analyse, and request germplasm. The course helps learners develop a practical understanding of how both systems are used and how data quality principles and standards support effective data sharing and use.

This course is intended for:
- Genebank staff.
- Genebank data managers and system administrators.
- Data provider institutions and publishing team.
- Researchers, breeders, and other germplasm users.
- Students and interested professionals.
- GGCE as a system for supporting germplasm collection management and associated data across core genebank operations.
- Accession and inventory records in GGCE, and their role in supporting the traceability of physical material.
- GGCE functions for routine genebank activities, including inventory monitoring, viability testing, regeneration, multiplication and distribution.
- The main functions of Genesys and the types of accession-level data available through the platform.
- Methods for querying and interpreting data in Genesys using manual filters and Genesys AI.
- Data quality principles and standards that support effective data management in GGCE and effective data sharing through Genesys.
This course consists of two lessons of approximately 40-55 minutes duration each:
- Lesson 1 – Introduction to GRIN-Global Community Edition (GGCE)
- Lesson 2 – Introduction to Genesys
