This course explores the interconnected roles of nutrition, food security, and aquatic foods in promoting healthy diets and sustainable food systems.

This course is aimed at anyone interested in the sustainable management of aquatic food systems. Specifically, the course targets:

  • Technical advisors in agriculture
  • Technical specialists in governments, NGOs and private sector
  • Fisheries and aquaculture experts
  • Nutritionists
  • Academicians and researchers

  • The role of aquatic foods in nutrition.
  • Sustainable aquatic food value chains.
  • How to avoid food loss and waste (FLW).
  • Sources and uses of food composition data.
  • Incorporating aquatic foods into home grown school feeding.

The course consists of 4 lessons of approximately 40 mins duration each:

  • Lesson 1 - Nutrition and the role of aquatic foods
  • Lesson 2 - Sustainable aquatic food value chains for nutrition and food loss and waste (FLW)
  • Lesson 3 - Food composition data: sources and uses
  • Lesson 4 - Incorporating aquatic food products into HGSF
