Topic outline
This five-lesson course describes the essentials of creating a forest management plan, including management plans for silviculture, business, ecosystem services, biodiversity, emergencies and disasters, and social, cultural and recreational aspects. The course explains what ‘SMART’ objectives are and how to conduct a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis in the context of forest management planning. Additionally, this course describes how to create monitoring and evaluation plans and apply adaptive monitoring principles to continuously ensure that forest management objectives are effectively met.

The course consists of three lessons of approximately 20 to 35 minutes each:
- Lesson 1: Setting forest management objectives
- Lesson 2: Developing plans for forest management
- Lesson 3: Formulating the business plan
- Lesson 4: Preparing for unexpected events and disasters
- Lesson 5: Monitoring and evaluation
