Empower women to engage in responsible investment in agriculture and food systems

This course targets policymakers, programme officers and women leaders.

• The main constraints that disadvantage women compared with men in starting or expanding their own agribusinesses and in benefiting from economic opportunities offered by large-scale investments in agriculture.
• Why it is important to empower women to engage in responsible investment in agriculture and food systems and ensure gender equality in the context of large-scale agricultural investment.
• The main measures that governments can adopt to empower women to engage fruitfully in agricultural investment and to foster more gender-responsive large-scale investment in agriculture and food systems. 

The course is composed of six lessons and a case-study, lasting approximately from 10 to 35 minutes:

• Lesson 1 - The gender gap in agrifood systems
• Lesson 2 - Why is there a gender gap in agrifood systems?
• Lesson 3 - Why and how should governments close the gender gap in agrifood systems?
• Lesson 4 - Create a gender-responsive policy and legal framework
• Lesson 5 - Promote women's entrepreneurship in agriculture and food systems
• Lesson 6 - Foster large-scale agricultural investments that benefit women and men equally
• Case study - Empowering rural women in Sumbawe
