Topic outline

Wholesale markets are critical components of food systems, linking producers, traders, retailers and consumers while influencing food availability, affordability and quality.

This course explores the role of wholesale markets and associated value-chain actors in supporting food security, nutrition, livelihoods and resilient food systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Learners will examine how food moves through wholesale market systems, the challenges faced by market actors, and the policy, infrastructure, information, finance and governance interventions that can strengthen wholesale markets and enhance their contribution to sustainable food system development.
