This course illustrates the importance of responsible investment in agriculture and food systems for sustainable development, as well as the scope and content of the CFS Principles for Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems (CFS-RAI).

It also analyses the features of an institutional, policy, legal and regulatory environment that fosters responsible investment, and it identifies the main actors who play a role in the process of creating such an enabling environment.

This course is primarily intended for those who play a role in creating an enabling environment for responsible investment in agriculture and food systems. Target audience includes:

  • Policy makers and parliamentarians
  • Government technical staff
  • Members of small-scale producer organizations
  • Members of civil society organizations

  • Benefits of responsible investment on food security and nutrition, as well as on the economy, the society and the environment.
  • The role of small-scale producers in agricultural investment.
  • The Principles for Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems (CFS-RAI).
  • The main components of an “enabling environment” for responsible investment in agriculture and food systems.
  • The roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders in creating an enabling environment.

The course consists of 5 lessons, ranging from approximately 20 to 50 minutes duration each:

  • Lesson 1 – Responsible investment in agriculture and food systems
  • Lesson 2 – Introduction to the Principles for Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems
  • Lesson 3 – Introduction to the Principles for Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems
  • Lesson 4 – Fundamentals of the enabling environment for responsible investment in agriculture and food systems
  • Lesson 5 – Who is involved in creating an enabling environment?

The online version of this course runs on the latest versions of the major browsers, such as Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox.

The downloadable version only runs on Windows PC’s and no additional software is needed.
