This course provides an overview of information gathering and data management for national forest inventories (NFI).
This course is primarily intended for people who are involved in NFIs but can be taken by anyone with an interest in the subject. Specifically, this course targets:
- Decision-makers planning investments for implementing NFIs
- Data managers and NFI team leaders
- Data technicians responsible for data analysis
- Youth and new generations of foresters
- Students, as curriculum material in forestry schools
- Key terminology for database management.
- The requirements for forest information systems.
- Data tools for NFIs.
- How to manage NFI data.
- Online analytical processing (OLAP).
The course consists of 3 lessons, of approximately 20 mins duration each:
- Lesson 1 - Basic concepts for data management
- Lesson 2 - Collecting and managing field data
- Lesson 3 - Online reporting and data archiving
